Inspired by tradition
The beauty of Italian ceramic.
Each bowl begins on the potter's wheel in a small workshop in Montelupo Fiorentino, near Florence. The maker forms every leaf separately and sets it in place by hand, building the artichoke layer upon layer until it looks as though it might still be growing.
The antique glaze is brushed on in several coats, so the color deepens in the folds and softens at the tips, and a gentle distressing along the edges gives every bowl the look of a piece that has graced a family table for years.
Styled at home
One bowl, every season.
One Italian ceramic artichoke bowl, styled for every occasion: pomegranates for Thanksgiving, mini pumpkins for book club, lemons in spring, or nothing at all on the console between gatherings.
Styling the ceramic artichoke bowl
A centerpiece for every season.
Spring
Lemons and a few stems of white tulips tucked between the leaves.
Summer
Peaches, figs or a tumble of garden roses for a long supper with friends.
Fall
Mini pumpkins, pomegranates or pears for Thanksgiving and book club.
Winter
Clementines with sprigs of magnolia, or a nest of ornaments for the holidays.
Every day
Empty on a console or mantel, where the shape of the leaves does all the work.
With Famille Rose
At the center of a Famille Rose table, keep the filling simple so the plates and the bowl share the spotlight.
