Made by hand in Tuscany

Shaped leaf by leaf, one bowl at a time.

Every artichoke bowl is made by hand in Montelupo Fiorentino, the little town outside Florence that has been making ceramics for centuries, by a workshop with more than forty years of history. The bowl is shaped by hand, then each leaf is formed separately and set in place, one row at a time, until the artichoke takes shape.

The antique Mediterranean blue glaze is brushed on by hand in layers, so it pools deep in the folds and runs lighter at the tips. That's why no two bowls are exactly alike, and why yours will never look mass-produced.

In Italy the artichoke has long been a symbol of hospitality, which makes it a lovely thing to set in the middle of a table full of people you love.

One bowl, every season

One centerpiece. Every season.

Fill it with pumpkins in November, clementines in December, white hydrangeas in spring and lemons all summer, or set a loaf of bread in it for Sunday supper. Between gatherings, leave it empty and let the leaves do the talking.

Less than three florist arrangements

A florist centerpiece for the holiday table runs around $200, and by the following weekend it's in the compost. This bowl is beautiful every single day: heaped with lemons on a Tuesday, empty on the console between gatherings, and full of pumpkins at Thanksgiving. It costs less than three florist arrangements, lasts for years and only looks better with time.

Through November 8: every order comes with a free set of four porcelain medallions, a $125 value, and ships free.

Where it's made

A Tuscan tradition, still made by hand.

Montelupo Fiorentino sits on the Arno just west of Florence, and its kilns have been firing ceramics since the Middle Ages. Some of the most treasured Renaissance tableware in Italy came from this town, and its workshops still shape, glaze and fire every piece by hand.

The small variations in shape and glaze, and the soft distressing on the leaf tips, are the marks of the maker rather than flaws.

How big is it?

About 14″ (35 cm) across and 12″ tall, and about 13 lbs, so it holds a generous centerpiece. Because each bowl is shaped by hand, yours may vary by a little.

Will mine look exactly like the photos?

Each bowl is formed and glazed by hand, so the shape, glaze and light distressing on the leaf tips vary a little from bowl to bowl.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free, and every bowl is carefully packed for the trip. Order by November 12 to have it on your Thanksgiving table.

My Mediterranean Blue Artichoke Bowl is my new favorite decor piece in my home! It's stunning! I love it both on my kitchen counter (see pic) and on my wood dining table. It adds the perfect pop of color to my neutral home. And, it's so elegant with it's handmade charm. Love the brown tips on the leaves. This piece has so much character and adds interest to my space! Looking forward to filling it with small white pumpkins for Thanksgiving, small red apples for Christmas, and colored Easter eggs for Easter! It's beautiful all year round!
