The story behind the pattern
A hundred fortunes in every bowl
The bok choy pattern grew out of the cabbage-leaf porcelain painted for export in the 1800s, and collectors have hunted for it at estate sales ever since. In Chinese, the word for bok choy sounds like "a hundred fortunes," so every bowlful comes with a quiet wish for whoever you're feeding.
Ours is an updated interpretation of that beloved pattern, made to be used every day rather than kept behind glass.

What makes porcelain special
Delicate to look at, made for everyday.
Porcelain begins with kaolin, a fine white clay, and is fired at about 2,300°F, several hundred degrees hotter than everyday earthenware. At that temperature the clay fuses into a dense, glass-like body all the way through.
The result is a plate that's thinner and lighter than ordinary ceramic, yet stronger and less prone to chipping, and it won't soak up stains or odors. That's why fine porcelain can go from the holiday table straight into the dishwasher.
